Leadership Training

Leadership has never been more important than in today's rapidly changing business world and it is not just confined to those perceived to be "at the top". Much more is expected of managers as organisations merge, downsize, re-engineer, restructure, de-layer, diversify . . Good leadership is needed at every organisational level, it is more than managing on a day-to-day basis, it is creating a compelling vision, being a source of inspiration.

It is no longer enough just to be technically competent or good in your job. Leadership now requires high levels of insight into several elements that are definitely non-technical - what's going on in your organisation, the behaviours of others, your own self-awareness, the immediate situation and the longer-term consequences of actions taken. Good leaders can deal with all of these effectively.

Leaders make things happen and they get the best from their people. This may seem a tall order for those about to embark on a career in management, however it is possible for most people to acquire the skills and competencies of good leadership and to demonstrate behaviours that inspire confidence.

In general, a Leadership Development Programme should:

  • Challenge individuals' mind-sets of how leadership is perceived
  • Ensure everyone understands what good leadership looks like in their organisation
  • Raise and maintain awareness of the importance of leadership
  • Encourage managers at every level to gain greater degrees of personal awareness and remove obstacles to personal development
  • Support those who need to develop effective leadership skills and competencies
  • Identify "natural" leaders and maximise their potential
  • Create opportunities for experiential Leadership Development, one of the hallmarks of a learning organisation
  • Promote an environment whereby feedback is expected, sought and given
  • Deliver results which can be quantified in terms of performance output

Benson Payne will work with you to create and support a Leadership Development programme that demonstrates these characteristics and which:

  • Enhances the current skills base of all staff
  • Creates a compelling image for those aspiring to management (see Competency Frameworks)
  • Generates positive discussion and feedback on how the organisation can respond to changes
  • Helps with Succession Planning strategies by identifying the future potential of staff
